PDT launched the
Peace Dividend Marketplace in Haiti (PDM-H) in July 2009. The project supports economic recovery in Haiti by encouraging local procurement of goods and services by MINUSTAH, international agencies, international and national companies, the Government of Haiti and other institutional buyers. The project supports private sector development and entrepreneurship, particularly among small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and woman-owned and managed businesses.
The international community has recently come together to focus on the social and economic development of Haiti. With the preferential terms of trade set out under the American Hope II legislation, and over $300 million committed in April 2009 at a donor's conference, there is real opportunity to develop the Haitian economy through job creation and private sector growth. PDM-H will be instrumental in ensuring that the money spent on Haiti will be spent in Haiti.
