PEACE DIVIDEND MARKETPLACE AFGHANISTAN

The Peace Dividend Marketplace Afghanistan (PDM-A) is PDT's flagship project.  Operational since January 2006, PDT's main office is located in Kabul with field offices in Kandahar, Jalalabad, Mazar-e-Sharif and Lashkar Gah.

PDT's approach in Afghanistan supports the Afghanistan National Development Strategy (ANDS), the Afghanistan Compact, and Afghan First local procurement practices. Afghan First encourages local procurement of goods and services from Afghan-owned vendors. This promotes economic growth, supports private sector development and creates jobs. Buyers benefit from reduced costs, faster delivery due to a smaller supply chain, and by buying locally they can win the respect and trust of the host community.

Since its inception, PDM-A has achieved impressive results that support economic development and job creation.  Results include:
  • Facilitated over $488 million into the Afghan economy, creating thousands of jobs
  • Hosting several large-scale conferences with key partners, including a Female Business Leaders conference, Afghan Business Conferences and an Afghan First Outreach and Support event
  • Conducting regular procurement training sessions across its field offices, including sessions on procurement for specific agencies such as the UNDP and the US military, and training exclusively for female-owned businesses
  • Distributing tenders to tens of thousands of local businesses across the country
